We’ve all been there. You’re ready to sear a steak, finish a crème brûlée, or—more likely—get that quartz banger to the perfect temp, and your torch lets out a pathetic little pfft. It’s empty.
Refilling a torch like the Blazer Big Shot GT-8000 should be a simple task, but for some reason, it’s shrouded in mystery, urban legends, and the occasional "why is it spraying liquid on my shoes?" panic. Today, we’re removing the fear and the myths. Grab your can of premium butane, and let’s get that flame back!

Before you put anything in, you have to get the old stuff out. Even when your torch stops firing, it’s often not "empty"—it’s full of compressed air and a tiny bit of leftover propellant. If you don't "bleed" or "purge" your torch, there won't be enough room for the fresh liquid butane.
There is a persistent myth that you should refill lighters while they are standing upright. This is a lie! To get liquid butane into your torch, you must use gravity. Inside that can, the liquid butane is at the bottom, and the gas propellant is at the top.
Have you ever looked at the plastic cap of your butane can and wondered, "What are these weird little plastic spikes for?" Those aren't just for show! Most premium butane brands include a set of various-sized adapter tips molded into the inside of the cap.

If you’re using the legendary Blazer Big Shot, remember:

This is the hardest part. Once you’ve filled your torch, it’s going to be freezing cold. Liquid butane is chilly, and the metal parts of your torch have just been "ice-bathed."
If you try to light it immediately, the flame will be inconsistent and sputtery. Wait 3 minutes. This allows the butane to stabilize and reach room temperature, ensuring a rock-solid, jet-blue flame.
A couple of refill videos:
Refilling doesn't have to be a mess. Just remember: Bleed it, Flip it, and Wait for it. Your Blazer will thank you with a flame that could probably be seen from space (not recommended, please stay safe).
